Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery Center at the Affiliated Beijing Tongren Hospital of Capital Medical University

Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery Center at the Affiliated Beijing Tongren Hospital of Capital Medical University is one of the Chinese premier otolaryngology head & neck surgery centers, which is located at No.1 Dongjiaominxiang LAN, Dongcheng District, Beijing.

The center is actually composed of two intimately-related institutions: Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery of Beijing Tongren Hospital and Beijing Institute of Otolaryngology. The predecessor of Beijing Institute of Otolaryngology was Otolaryngology Hospital of Beijing , founded by Prof. Xu Yinxiang in 1953. And it was the first special hospital of otolaryngology in China. After incorporated to Beijing Tongren Hospital in 1958, it became the first otolaryngology institute of our country. Many well-known specialists of ENT including Liu Ruihua, Xu Yinxiang, Li Xinwu, Liu Chan and Han Demin had been working there and dedicated to its development. Now it is the basic-science research arm of the center.

Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery of Beijing Tongren Hospital mainly provides patients care, which was also founded in early 1950s. At first it was affiliated to Department of Surgery, and only provided outpatient service. In 1958, after the incorporation of Beijing Tongren Hospital and Otolaryngology Hospital of Beijing, it became a rarely large department in China then owning about 120 beds and the second key discipline of Tongren Hospital besides ophthalmology.

In 2006, the Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery Center was founded, which contains five sub-departments, nine clinical centers and more than ten labs located throughout three areas, with nearly 300 beds. It is committed to exceptional patient care, leading-edge research, and superb educational programs. We provide clinical care to more than 160,000 outpatients and accomplish more than 7,000 cases of operation every year. We are in the leading place in the area of ESS, treatment of allergic rhinitis, surgical management of OSAHS, cochlea implant, early interventional treatment of laryngeal precancerous conditions, conservative surgery of advanced laryngeal cancer. The close collaboration between our physicians and scientists is one of our unique strengths, enabling us to provide patients with the best care available today as we work to discover more effective strategies to prevent, control, and ultimately cure otolaryngological diseases in the future.

Recently on October 8, 2007, Nanjing Tongren Hospital was opening. It is an international standard and first-class tertiary comprehensive hospital in Jiangning Economy and Technology Development District, Nanjing. The new hospital takes the development of feature departments as the first priority, the higher quality services as the main direction, the establishment of hospital brand as the key, the Tongren culture as the foundation and is making a model of the Chinese Joint Venture Hospital.
